Blue Frog
Equal parts restaurant, bar and music venue, Blue Frog is better known for its gigs
than its food or drink. Opened in December 2007 by composers Dhruv Ghanekar and Ashutosh Phatak, advertising filmmakers Mahesh Mathai and Srila Chatterjee, and former investment banker Simran Mulchandani, the 6,000 square feet Blue Frog resembles a new-age opera house meets warehouse space. Housed in an erstwhile mill compound, everything, including the raised bumps on the walls, has been specially conceptualised to optimise the sound. The programming skews towards rock and jazz, with popular names from around the country and relatively unknown-but-frequently impressive groups from Europe filling up the roster from Tuesday through Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays are usually soundtracked by Indian and foreign DJs, while Sundays are somewhat of a free-for-all, with the venue occasionally hosting plays, amateur comedy and upcoming bands.
