MB Maps: Mohammed Ali Road

DOWNLOAD THE MAP HERE.

The month of Ramzan (Monday, August 1 to Monday, August 29 this year) offers an invitation to food tourists that’s irresistible—and incomplete. There’s a date and time, but no address. Where, exactly, is the party?

For those who’ve been over (but not on) Mohammed Ali road, it’s hard to picture the blighted stretch underneath as an all-night, kilometre-long buffet. What’s even harder is finding your way to where the meat is unless you know where you’re headed.

Gustation is concentrated in two zones: Bohri Mohalla and Minara Masjid.

Bohri Mohalla is the quieter of the two, and packs up by midnight. From Mohammed Ali road, look for the bright orange sign of Saifee Ambulance on the west side. It’s not rare to see BMWs parked alongside the charcoal grills.

Minara Masjid’s vertiginous green minarets are hard to miss. I. M. Merchant road will, as Eid approaches, overflow with bodies like a local train. Be prepared to hover for seats. It makes a great last stop, as the many varieties of mithai will please even the sweetest tooth.

Insomniac adventurers can follow the action all the way up to (or down from) Nagpada Junction. Distances are walkable and even the narrowest streets are floodlit. Only the sunrise will stop you from trying it all.

Best juice of mumbai is Nawab juice centre. The service of their wellcome drinks was very good at my wedding and their pinacolada was fantastic . Cheer up.

This was awesome. Went there two days ago armed with this map and tried almost everything.
But unfortunately, I think ‘s’ Hussein doesn’t exist any longer. There’s nothing in front of Chinese n Grill. We asked around a lot but no one knew it. One shopkeeper mentioned that it shut down. But do let me know if anyone has better luck it.

Don’t leave without having ‘Bhandoli’ They’re these tiny sweet pancakes, which aunty makes hot and fresh, as you order.
Her tiny stall is 1 shop away from the famous Hindustan Hotel. It’s her own secret family recipe. No one else serves it. Must have!

    1) Nihari lovers, don’t miss Nalli Nihari with fresh tandoori roti at CHINESE AND GRILLS restaurant ,,,,, ( trust me this is the best nihari available in Mumbai,,,, better than the one in Noor Mohammadi restaurant )

    2) Sweet lovers, don’t miss the mawa stuffed Jalebis at BURHANPUR JALEBIWALA ( hot and fresh, straight out of the huge kadai)

    3) If at SHALIMAR restaurant, try their Chicken Chilly gravy with fresh Tandoori roti ( I know ,,, strange combo, but you’ll love it ,,, it’s their speciality )

    4) Seekh Kebab lovers ,,,,, try the seekh with deep fried paratha at Mastan Talao ,,,, soft and tasty ,,,,, (they are actually better than Haji saab’s near Duncan road) Mastan Talao lies on Dimtimkar road near Gordon Hall bldg.

Really wanted something of this sorts. When I was in Delhi, I watched a show describing the food at Mohd Ali Road during Ramzan and now that I am in Mumbai, won’t miss this opportunity.

Although, I had been to Mohd. Ali road once in June but was totally lost. This post will surely help me structure my hunt for good food .

    Thanks Mumbaiboss :)
