In case you can’t make it for the Rajasthan International Folk Festival in Jaipur—picked as one of the best international festivals across the globe by UK-based world music magazine Songlines—later this week, here’s some consolation. One of the line-up highlights, Turkish multi-instrumentalist Burhan Ocal and his Istanbul Oriental Ensemble will be staging a concert at the National Centre for the Performing Arts’s Tata Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 30. Ocal and his Ensemble’s rousing Gypsy sounds, which feature a fair amount of taqsim or improvisation, should get the audience at the seated auditorium on their feet and dancing in minutes (just as they probably do at their gigs at jazz and folk festivals around the world). One Mumbai Boss reader can win a couple’s pass to the event, which has been organised by the Turkish Consulate and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. For a chance to win, just email your name and phone number to editors@mumbaiboss.com, remembering to put “Burhan Ocal” in the subject line. The contest is only open to readers in Mumbai. The last date to enter is Thursday, October 25. The winner will be notified directly via email and have to travel to and from the venue at his own expense.
