Art of the Day: Spot The Artist

"A panoply of artists, critics and other arts-related people" (2008 - 2012).
If you know your artists, gallerists and art critics well enough, you might find it easy to spot a few in Nicola Durvasula’s wall drawing, “A panoply of artists, critics and other arts-related people”, currently on display at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke as part of the British artist’s solo “I Am Here”. On the bottom middle somewhere is Gallery Chemould owner Shireen Gandhy, Nature Morte’s Peter Nagy, artist Reena Saini Kallat, and scattered among them are Atul Bhalla, Krishen Khanna, and Tejal Shah to name a few. Durvasula pulled them from her collection of photographs of Indian artists at work, rendering them with just stamp pad ink and a store-bought pen. The deftness of line, itself based on the precision of miniature work, is Durvasula’s primary interest. Also part of this excellent retrospective of sorts is Durvasula’s cheeky “Reddymaids”, in which ordinary household objects like the jhadoo get the beauty treatment.
