Taxi Drivers Might Go On Strike On Monday
October 3, 2012 11:03 am by Editors
Prepare yourself for yet another taxi strike. Nearly 45,000 cabbies (of 48,000) plan to stay off the roads on Monday, October 8 to protest the government’s decision to increase taxi fares by Rs1 and auto and cool cab fares by Rs2. The fare for every kilometre after the first one is to be increased to Rs12 from Rs10.5 for cabs and Rs9.5 from Rs7 for autos. Taxi unions are angry at the state for not implementing the Hakim Committee’s recommendation that both taxi and auto fares be hiked by Rs3. The strike, if it does take place, will join a series of agitations and threats of strikes that have bothered commuters in recent months.
