Fro-Yo Review: Frozen Yogurt Inc.

September 28, 2012 11:37 am by

In August, Bandra-based patisserie Deliciae tied up with Churchgate-based snack shop Cafe Markiv’s and developed a range of dessert flavoured fro-yo, which they’re selling under the brand name Frozen Yogurt Inc. (FYI). The idea is far from novel. During the rampant fro-yo trend this past year, a number of shops, including Yogurtbay and Smooch, have experimented with dessert-inspired frozen yoghurt with varying degrees of success. At FYI, they’ve attempted to recreate some of Deliciae’s popular desserts like banoffee pie, apple crumble, and red velvet cake using plain fro-yo as the base for each. The banoffee (Rs137) for instance was layered with chocolate biscuit crumbs, caramel sauce, plain fro-yo and sliced banana, but by simply combining these ingredients they weren’t able to capture the rich flavour of the dessert. The red velvet (Rs137) was composed of red velvet sponge, plain fro-yo, gloppy raspberry sauce and a heap of sprinkles; it tasted more like tooth-achingly sweet falooda. The Overload (Rs137), to which the single staffer at FYI attributed maximum praise, was the worst of the three fro-yos we sampled. It came loaded with chocolate biscuit crumbs, crushed Oreo cookie, stale tasting and oversweet brownie pieces, and a cloying chocolate sauce that resurrected the pain in forgotten cavities. FYI is not a completely failed effort though. Without the fuss of the toppings, their plain, strawberry, and Fruitella (kiwi and strawberry) flavoured frozen yoghurt (Rs60 for a small cup), which were optimally creamy, sweet and tangy, are worth the visit to Markiv’s.

Ignore this review and definitely go check out FYI yourself. The Banoffee & fruit meringue are mind blowing!

All the best, you guys are doing a great job!

Looks like the reviewer is anti-froyo & hence such a biased review. In a nutshell..FYI is easily one of best Froyo places in the town.. me & my friends are completely swooned by their Red Velvet !! Their juhu store has a cozy sitting place which makes the overall experience worthwhile. Loved FYI totally…Cheers!!

Dis-agree completely!! FYI is the best FRO YO in Bombay, the Apple Crumble is to die for, and the other flavors are extremely unique and taste delicious for the most part!

What a load of crap!! Been a big fan of deliciae for years and FYI has kept up the reputation with some mouth watering frozen yogurt! The overload and meringue are my favourites. Keep the good work going fellas!

For the apparently uninitiated reviewer, the insipid yogurts elsewhere may have satiated her taste buds, but FYI is the complete opposite of her rantings. The desert inspired yogurt range leaves you salivating and craving more.

The Apple Crumble FroYo with its earthy, comforting and mouthwatering flavour had me dashing back for more while the Strawberry Lychee combo had a little party of its own in my mouth.

The base Yogurt flavours are strong and creamy, while holding their own when paired with the delightful toppings and make every single bite magical!

Hearty servings, Value for money, Fantastic place!!!

Disagree! By far the best Fro-yo place in the city. The creative dessert fro-yo combination is simply yummy and anyone I have spoken to that has also tried it has said the same. FYI is definitely worth a visit, and then another one… and another one…

Not sure whether the reviewer went to the same place I did! It has already become a post dinner favourite for my family and me. The innovative dessert toppings definitely sets it apart from any of the other froyo joints in south bombay.

I completely disagree with the above review. I love frozen yogurt and FYI is by far the best. The chocolate overload, red velvet and banoffee are amazing !! Apple crumble is my favourite but since the others are equally good it ‘s easy enough to have more than one indulgence once your there.

I too disagree with this review. Although the Apple Crumble Fro-Yo is my favorite, the Banoffee Fro-Yo is a close second and its got a lovely flavor. It will be different when served as a Fro-Yo. However, I do agree that the quality and taste of the yoghurt as itself is nice and creamy, but the toppings complement it and add to the experience.

I have tried almost all the yogurt parlors in mumbai and can confidently say that FYI is right on top of that list. The trawberry lychee combo is one of the best yogurts I ever had. Keep up thegood work FYI.

Being a die-hard fan of deliciae, I was fortunate enough to be at the opening of FYI and must have tried over 6 of their flavors.. From plain strawberry to their classic banoffee everything was spot on… far ahead of other options in Mumbai.. keep up the good work and take reviews like this in your stride.. They don’t have a clue of what they’re talking about!

I too disagree with the review. The apple crumble was to die for & is the closest thing you’ll find to apple pie. The red velvet tastes fresh with just the right amount of cake crumble. And lets not forget the Strawberry with Lychees. Simply great yogurt desserts.

I disagree with this review. I loved the overload, and the banoffee was spectacular. Cant directly compare it to the deliciae banoffe, but on its own its a fab combo.
