When a theatrical adaptation of Mark Haddon’s bestselling book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was announced, fans of the novel were skeptical. The story is told from the perspective of 15-year-old Christopher Boone, who has a form of autism. Would the play be able to portray his inner life? Written by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott, the drama got rave reviews upon its premiere at the National Theatre in London in August. Critics have written that “the true wonder is that the intimacy of the book—the first-hand knowledge of Christopher’s mind—is given real theatrical life” and that the adaptation is “also funny and extremely moving.” Indian fans can see what the fuss is all about at a screening of the play at the National Centre for the Performing Arts as part of NT Live, a partnership between the UK’s National Theatre and the NCPA to show DVD recordings of the former’s productions. In the play, Christopher (Luke Treadaway) finds the corpse of his neighbour’s dog impaled with a garden fork. His decision to solve the mystery of the dog’s death leads him on an adventure that reveals some curious truths about his family.
