Should You Listen To Priyanka Chopra’s Debut Single?

September 18, 2012 4:09 pm by

Here are five ways in which “In My City”, Priyanka Chopra’s debut single and the first step in her quest for international pop music stardom, has been designed to be a mega smash:
1) It’s produced by RedOne, maker of such chart-busting tunes as “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga.
2) It features backing vocals from a singer who sounds just like Lady Gaga.
3) It includes a rap by will.i.am—Black Eyed Pea, capital-letter hater, and the man responsible for such global uber-hits as “I Gotta Feeling”.
4) She sings with the same accent that she speaks with (all the easier for her to appeal to the American audience, yo).
5) It doesn’t sound anything like this.

Here are five reasons why “In My City”, Priyanka Chopra’s debut single, sucks:
1) It’s produced by RedOne.
2) It features backing vocals from a singer who sounds just like Lady Gaga.
3) It includes a rap by will.i.am.
4) She sings with the same accent that she speaks with.
5) From the Euro-dance beats to the inane—and grammar-free—lyrics (sample line: “You ain’t never had a party til you come to a party in my city”), it does sound like every other characterless techno-pop song that has plagued the US charts over the last three years.

All those people who are saying that we should like this dong because Chopra is taking “India to the world”, clearly you’ve never heard of M.S.Subbulakshmi, Zubin Mehta or Freddie Mercury(alright he’s not exactly Indian).
Do you want “India to be represented” by such terrible singing?

she took 2 long years for it? There’s nothin exciting in this crap IT’S CRAP

You know, if it was anyone’s song, I would have ignored it. But being Priyanka Chopra’s song, I didn’t, and it SUCKED so bad. First of all, my expectations were kinda high. But as soon as I heard it was going to feature w.i.ll.iam or whatever hes called, I was seriously disappointed. It’s just another piece of shit. The only difference is that it’s a wannabe piece of shit. PC aiming to make a piece of shit of a song, and failing to do even that ! Look at the video man, so annoying. Thanks, you’ve got a great body, you’ve got good cars, you have the money to shoot in the USA, wow man, so impressive.

just for all you cynics, the lyrics were actually NOT penned down by her. The lyrics to in my city have been written by Brian Kennedy and a few others from her team (its also been co-written by Will himself) – so all the taunts that it sounds like a 2nd grader has written these lyrics- you know who to blame. Secondly, the lyrics HAD to be basic and generic because the song was chosen to be used in NFL commercials, so it had to be easy on the lips and inviting

I dont think its priyanka’s real voice……….they have done so much mixing that she sounds like justin bieber….haha :)

  6. Bredy |

@random if the lyrics was like written by 2nd grader than I think u can do better than that….right? U guys always see the negative part but never praise about the positive side…..at least she made it to the international level.

haha. Neha’s said it exactly what i felt like- ‘cittaay’. And what about the she says ‘I’.. She’s like ‘…haaai know you got..’

Kaj – you’re a fool and you know it. All this “she is making our india proud” crap is so tiresome. miss piggy needs to retire from acting, let alone start a career making cheap euro trash that you know nobody gives a fuck about. C’mon people, where is your pride?

  10. kaj |

whatever you say but you cant deny she is the first person from india who has atleast taken a first towards world stage..! We must feel proud of pc.

The question is do you think she would have got her record deal without her bollywood money & contacts.
@LOL @rahul seriously! do u actually think we need more mass produced/manufactured deintellectualized music like this, isn’t bollywood bad enough?
We’ve got the talent no doubt, check out our indie music scene, the’re a great bunch & they don’t need an international record label /recording artist collaboration or marketing gimmicks to be great!

  13. rahul |

because of critics like his pop culture in our contry is dead and youl will never allow the popular music scene to grow ,because of youll all weel be knon for is lame bollywood dance numbers

  14. LOL |

    Okay, okay

  20. Neha |

Can’t stop laughing every time she sings ‘in the citaayyyy’.

Priyanka should thank Simi aunty for launching her as India’s Mariah Carey.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-HJz6EnCqU

and then relaunching her again as India’s Mariah Carey for those who forgot.
