Help Fund The Release Of An Indian Indie Film
Let your good deed of the week be a contribution towards the release of independent filmmaker Srinivas Sunderrajan’s sophomore film Greater Elephant. Sunderrajan, whose debut feature The Untitled Karthik Krishnan Project was made on a budget of Rs40,000 and released as part of PVR Cinemas’ Director’s Rare banner, decided to adopt the crowdfunding route in order to finance the promotions of Greater Elephant, a dramedy about a mahout in search of his lost elephant. Sunderrajan, who is perhaps best known as the bassist of Mumbai metal band Scribe, still needs about Rs1.5 lakh to reach his target of Rs6 lakh by Saturday, September 8. The money will be used to cover everything from the cost of acquiring a censor certificate for the film and booking cinema halls to paying for advertisements. You can donate any amount between Rs500 and Rs1,50,000; both your contribution and the amount you pitch will get you any one of the following: a mention on the film’s official website, a T-shirt, a Greater Elephant DVD, an invite to the premiere, a mention in the end credits or a combination of the above. For details on how to make a contribution, see here.

I think it’s great that you’re now encouraging financial donations, Mumbai Boss. As well as urging readers to fund art projects, perhaps you could also give publicity to local NGOs and charities.
It would be very useful for readers to have an expert view on which city causes really need help and which NGOs are the most effective. Can we start with donations for medical treatment for children from poor families?
Hi Anon, I would have appreciated it if you would have shared your personal experience with the website rather than just ‘generalizing’ your opinion. I’m aware of the fact that the company keeps a certain fee – but that’s because they also have overheads to take care of. Their fee is something that we (film team) are taking care of. Whatever your contribution – you get your remuneration irrespective of any discrepancies. You have my word for that. So lets not have a negative attitude towards anything that we have half-knowledge about. Cheers
– Srinivas (director/Greater Elephant)
Dont bother. The company that takes contributions retains a chunk of your contribution before passing it on to the people who need it. It’s just a money making exercise for the platform. They don’t even believe in the cause or help out the people in any way.
