Why Manmohan Singh Is Trending On Twitter
You might know the famous Manmohan Singh joke: the Prime Minister goes to the dentist for an annual check-up and the dentist says, “Ab to muh kholo.” Thanks to “Coalgate“, Singh has become the butt of many more jokes that poke fun at his habitual silence. If you scroll through the tweets that mention “PM Manmohan Singh”, you will find jibes such as “PM Manmohan Singh would have acted better in movie “Khamoshi” than Nana Pataker”, “#PM Manmohan Singh is very good in playing DUMB CHARADES” and “Reports are in last night Sonia G updated the software of world’s most advanced robot PM Manmohan Singh. He uttered few words today.”
As soon as he uttered them in Parliament today, Singh was shouted down by the Opposition. He tried to defend the government against the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report that it made a loss of Rs1.86 lakh crore when it eschewed the competitive bidding process to allocate coal blocks to private companies. When he was allowed to speak, Singh said that the CAG’s observations were “clearly disputable” and that the government has begun cancelling the allocation of coal blocks to companies that have not started mining. At the rate at which scams by the government are being unearthed, it might not be long before someone publishes a book that’s bound to be a bestseller: 101 Manmohan Singh Jokes.
