Pundole’s To Hold Auction of Property From Jamshed Bhabha Estate

Lot 36: Oryx Antelopes by Arthur Wardle.
The National Centre for the Performing Arts, along with Pundole’s, will hold an auction on Monday, August 27 and Tuesday, August 28 of property from the estates of Jamshed Bhabha, Noshir Nanporia (the half-Japanese half-Parsi former editor of The Times of India) and three royal families. There are hundreds of objects up for sale, including antiques from the second century onwards, miniature paintings, Lalique crystal, porcelain, Japanese scrolls, modern Indian and Asian art, European ceramics, silver, furniture, textiles and glass items. You can either browse the collections in person—they will be displayed at the NCPA for viewing purposes from Saturday, August 25, until Monday—or peruse the online catalogue. If you’re feeling flush, you may consider lot 10, a 13th-century Bronze from South India with a reserve estimate of Rs40 to Rs60 lakh. Alternatively, you can consider lot 266, a group of 19 English ceramic tiles, available for a relative bargain, at Rs8,000 to Rs12,000. As with the auction held last October, all proceeds will be donated to the NCPA.
