First Look At Marry Me—The Store
As a wedding planner of five years, Candice Pereira has good instincts about what women want on their big day. It’s almost always a fairytale setting with pretty things like lace, satin ribbons, exquisite flowers, and scented candles. The co-founder of Marry Me—The Wedding Planners has employed that knowledge to set up, along with her husband Jarret D’Abreo, a gift store called, somewhat unimaginatively, Marry Me—The Store, which will open in Bandra on Sunday, August 12.
A peek at the store located inside the Pali Naka branch of Candies revealed a host of girlie desirables like raw silk batuas; ornate gift envelopes; clusters of assorted bangles; jewellery boxes with prints of Paris; lace brooches; room fragrances and potpourri; organic body oils; and themed stationery. Pereira told us that she never intended to start a store and that her clients and friends pushed her into opening one because they trust her taste and keep seeking gifting advice from her. Her years of customising weddings put Pereira in touch with an interesting mix of vendors from India and abroad whose pastel-coloured wares are exhibited at the store.
Pereira has decorated the space herself. The room’s soft green wallpaper reminded us of the colour scheme at the Ladurée chain of patisseries in Europe. The products are displayed in re-painted old cabinets and trunks and on garden tables that Pereira sourced from relatives. With its abundance of pastel colours, floral and butterfly prints, and charming Parisian imagery, the store clearly targets female buyers.
Since a lot of the products are only one-off pieces, we promptly booked their ornate hairpins embellished with bejewelled owls; a mogra, vanilla and fennel scented candle; a tiny tin box of pomegranate lip balm; an elegant sheer silk envelope meant for storing saris; a red and white polka-dotted sleeping mask; a bunch of lace wrapped bangles; and a set of envelopes made with floral print paper and satin ribbons. For men, they only stock a few Oliver Khanna tie and cufflink sets, and a couple of printed suspenders. The best part about Marry Me—The Store is the accessible pricing, which ranges from Rs50 for a single envelope and small gift boxes to Rs1,500 for an illustrated key cabinet made of wood.
