The Good Buy: Bollywood Umbrella
Delhi-based fashion and accessories designer Nida Mahmood’s new range of vibrant umbrellas, which feature lyrics and stills from Hindi film songs, is a decidedly kitsch but timely homage to the Bollywood movies that celebrate the romance of the rains. There are six umbrellas in the collection, including one with lyrics from “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” from 1958’s Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, and another with that iconic scene of Raj Kapoor and Nargis in the song “Pyaar Hua Ikrar Hua” from 1955’s Shree 420 (see image). For Aamir Khan’s biggest fans, Mahmood has designed a red and black brolly featuring a shot of Khan mid-dance and the lyrics of “Tip Tip Baarish Shuru Ho Gayi” from the long-forgotten 1991 film Afsana Pyar Kya.
