Pick Up Antique And Affordable Lithographs For A Good Cause

"B Series" by John Gould.
We routinely highlight art exhibitions with affordable price ranges, mostly because we believe that collecting good art shouldn’t only be the purview of the deep pocketed. Add to the recent spurt of wallet-friendly shows (such as those at Sakshi Gallery and Clark House), a sale organised by Gallery Art & Soul of about 2,000 lithographs, some 200 years old, of various flora and fauna by British botanists, zoologists and other nature-seeking sorts. The prices range from Rs5,000 to Rs28,000 and if that isn’t enough incentive, know that the sales proceeds will go towards NGO People for Animals’ 34 hospitals and shelters across the country and their various activities including ambulance services, sterilisation and education programmes, and disaster rescue missions. Among the booty are John Gould’s famous plates of birds and animals, Joseph Paxton’s exotic plants, William Curtis’s hand-coloured engravings of British flora, Benjamin Samuel Williams’s orchids, and John Edward Gray’s animals (Gray incidentally was the Keeper of Zoology at the British Museum in London).
