Alas, not only are the rumours of ACP Dhoble’s transfer to Pune just that, but there come reports that police commissioner Arup Patnaik has ordered all police stations to go the Dhoble way. They have been told to begin cracking down on all bars, discos, pubs and other places of general disrepute flouting the rules within their jurisdiction, or face the consequences. Woe betide them if ACP Dhoble is to discover the wrongdoing himself, in which case the senior inspector of the respective station will be held personally responsible. The measure is meant to dissuade cops from tipping off establishments of a possible raid in exchange for a fee.
