Prive Has Shuttered; Will Reopen As New Venture
That ringing is the death knell for Mumbai’s nightlife. While the residents of Khar and Bandra mourn the closing of popular watering hole WTF!, south Mumbai folks have been bemoaning the loss of Colaba nightclub Prive, which shuttered in April. The news must have come as a hard blow to SoBo spawn including Jai Anmol Ambani (aka son of Anil), who is said to have been among the big spenders at the club’s VIP tables. Rubbishing tabloid gossip, which claimed that Prive shut on account of debt and licensing issues, Vikrant Chougule, the managing director of Indage Restaurants, the company that owns Prive, said that all their papers and finances were in order. He added that they are renovating the space for the launch of a new venture, which should be ready by September. “I’m always looking to provide new experiences,” said Chougule. “I even closed Athena, which used to be in the same space as Prive, five or six years after launching it. It’s time for something new again.”
