Get Carroll-ed Away at Cool Chef Café This Sunday
The image you see on the right is that of the Mad Hatter, and you can take tea with her—yes, her—at Cool Chef Café this Sunday at “The Weird and the Wonderful”, an event being described by its organisers as “an evening of bizarre performances, funky music and loads of dancing–inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland”. The Mad Hatter will be serving chai to guests who can also expect to see other characters from the beloved book doing everything from reciting poetry, reading excerpts from the novel, and playing the word game invented by Carroll that is believed to be the precursor to Scrabble. Look out for the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat, as interpreted by a cast of characters featuring theatre actors Yuki Ellias, Sheena Khalid, Max Fernandes, Sujay Saple and Kyla Dsouza. But it’s “not a play”, said Ellias, who along with Khalid roped in Bollywood costume designers Jaimal Odedra and Sheetal Sharma and make-up artist Shabana Latif (the three of them worked on Don 2) and Niharaka Jolly (also the maker of Tantrum shoes) to put together their looks. The music is expected to be a dance-friendly mix of “electronic new-age funk” and if you should so choose to get into the act, you could challenge the Queen of Hearts to a round of foosball.
