Catch French Short Films At Sakshi Gallery

A still from 'Kitchen'.
Though you might like your animation films strictly by the house of Pixar, know that the French have demonstrated ingenious ways of using the form to illustrate the zeitgeist. In this mix of French short animations and films that will be shown at Sakshi Gallery on Thursday, July 12, rocks and robots, scarecrows and lobsters all get a chance to illustrate decidedly morose themes like death and loneliness, while also enchanting with some nifty camera work. Watch out for Ligne Verte (Green Line), a quick and neat encapsulation of barricades both physical and mental and Kitchen, a part comedic, painterly-shot exploration of one woman’s attempt to butcher and cook lobster for dinner (you may never eat the crustacean again). Also showing is Le Baiser (The Kiss), a re-tooled version of a 1908 movie about a young woman’s first kiss. The screenings, entitled “Etrangement Courts”, are part of the monthly Art Night Thursday initiative and are being held in collaboration with Alliance Française.
