Indigo Deli Bandra Will Reopen Tonight
Indigo Deli fans, take heart. The Bandra outlet will be back in business from 7pm tonight. The restaurant downed it shutters on the afternoon of Friday, June 29, after the BMC demolished its outer wall, which enclosed an al fresco seating area. The demolition elicited reactions of outrage on Twitter, where scores of gutted Indigo Deli regulars posted pictures of the torn-down wall and comments in support of the establishment. According to this report, the BMC took action against Indigo Deli because though city restaurants can serve their customers in the space between their buildings and the road, it’s illegal to build walls and enclose a seating area. On Saturday, the restaurant’s owners sent a statement to the press saying that the demolition came as a surprise to them because “Indigo Deli Bandra has existed as is (since April 2012) from the time the building was erected (about 15 years ago). This action has been taken without any prior notice.” For now, only the indoor section of the restaurant will be functional; the outdoor section will be rebuilt after the owners consult the BMC.
