BMC Has launched A Monsoon Tracking Website
• Rain Check. The BMC has launched www.mumbaimonsoon.in, a rainfall tracking website, which they claim will be updated every 15 minutes with details of the rainfall in 29 areas across the city. The website will also have traffic updates and information on train and air service disruptions during the monsoon. [DNA]
• Lost Baggage. According to data gathered by the Central Industrial Security Force, the company that maintains security at the Mumbai airport, there has been a 10-fold increase in the number of forgotten bags at the airport between 2006 and 2011. In the last three years, the security force has gathered forgotten goods valued at Rs13 crore. Every piece of unclaimed baggage results in a security drill, which necessitates suspension of operations for up to 20 minutes. The airport manager keeps the items for three months, after which they are auctioned. [Hindustan Times]
• French Open. Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal won the French Open in a game against Serbian player Novak Djokovic on Monday, June 11. This was Nadal’s seventh French Open win, a record that overtook Swedish champ Bjorn Borg’s six French Open victories. With 11 Grand Slam titles to his credit, Nadal’s record now equals that of Sweden’s Borg and Australia’s Rod Laver. [BBC]
