Monsoon To Hit Mumbai By Saturday
• Rainy Season. The Met Department says the monsoon will reach Mumbai’s shores within the next 24 hours, having already hit Harnai, near Pune. “The reduced momentum of an offshore trough stalled the progress of the monsoon on Thursday. If the monsoon does not progress ahead of Harnai on Friday, we will have to review our forecast,” the Met deputy director-general said. Skies are expected to remain cloudy today. [Hindustan Times]
• Tiger Conservation. Maharashtra will get four more tiger sanctuaries in Vidarbha that will help in strengthening tiger corridors in the state. Corridors are vital for allowing tigers to roam safely from one reserve to another, and together the four (Bor, Navegaon, new Nagzira and Karandla) and will add another 500 sq. kms to protected forest cover in Maharashtra. • Tennis Champs. Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza won the mixed doubles title at the French Open, marking their second win together after their 2009 Australian Open win. They beat Polish-Mexican duo Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Santiago Gozalez 7-6 6-1. “It’s been a while since I won a grand slam and this is the first time I’ve won a grand slam trophy as a father so this is for my four-month old daughter back home,” said Bhupathi who turned 38 the same day.
