Bandra Has A New Fresh Fish and Meat Shop

If you have neither the skills nor the inclination to haggle with high-pitched fisherwomen at one of the city’s many macchi markets, we recommend adding Super Fresh to your culinary black book. The three-month old Bandra store’s catch of the day includes red snapper, pomfret, rawas, baby sharks, surmai, prawns, mandeli, mackerel and Bombay duck, all of which the staff is happy to clean, fillet and devein for you. If you’re looking for imported seafood, your best bets would still be home-delivery service Pesca Fresh and Godrej Nature’s Basket though we did find that Super Fresh’s local produce is priced marginally lower than both those places.

Though seafood forms the focus, Super Fresh also sells fresh chicken, lamb, and mutton kheema. Like other cold storages in Bandra, such as the popular Jude and Mark’s in Pali Naka, the Ambedkar Road-based Super Fresh stocks ready-to-cook foods such as chicken nuggets, sausages and seekh kebabs; and prawn spring rolls and pops, made by the likes of Al Kabeer, Zorabian Foods, Godrej and Keells. You can buy pork, beef, crabs, lobsters and clams as well, but only by order. On request, owner Jyoti Bhathena will marinate prawns, surmai or pomfret in homemade spice mixes to sell by the kilo.

Mandeli is priced at Rs100 per kg, mackerel at Rs165 per kg, and prawns at Rs350 per kg. Super Fresh offers free home delivery for orders over Rs500.
