Sign Up Your Kids For Pooch-Friendly Summer Workshops
The folks at the Welfare of Stray Dogs conduct regular education and awareness programmes at schools across the city. The next logical step, said WSD’s Abodh Aras, was to engage with kids at “a creative level” on the issues related to stray dogs. To this end, the WSD will, starting this weekend, hold a month-long series of summer workshops for children that cover the fields of art, craft, and writing. Here’s what they’ve got lined up:
Saturday, May 12 11am to 1pm
Story telling Journalist and author Jerry Pinto will get kids to weave a story on the life of a street dog (Ages: between 5 and 10).
Thursday, May 17 11am to 1pm
Painting with Art For Akanksha, a division of the NGO Akanksha Foundation (Ages: between 9 and 15).
Saturday, May 19 10am to noon
Photography World Press Photo-award winning photo-journalist Arko Datta will show children how to best photograph street animals (Ages: between 9 and 15).
Thursday, May 24 11am to 1pm
Origami WSD volunteer Sonya Shastri will teach kids how to make animal shapes (Ages: between 5 and 10).
Saturday, May 26 11am to 1pm.
Writing Frontline magazine journalist Lyla Bavadam will show children how to become “street dog reporters” (Ages: between 9 and 15).
Saturday, June 2, 2012 9am onwards
Treasure Hunt with WSD Kids will be given a set of clues to help them find street dogs living in and around Churchgate and CST. (Ages: between 5 and 10, and between 11 and15; each child needs to be accompanied by an adult).
The photography workshop will be conducted at the WSD Kennels in Mahalaxmi; all other activities, except for the treasure hunt, will be held at the Dream Catchers Hall in Kala Ghoda. Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 15 kids.
