Watch 11 French Animation Shorts at Sakshi Gallery
You can always count on the French to layer animation films with decidedly adult content, making them appear PG only in format. As part of this month’s Art Night Thursday, on May 10, from 6.30pm onwards, Alliance Française, in partnership with Sakhi Gallery, will show 11 French animation shorts that touch on such grown-up themes as loneliness and labour and boredom and love (our advice: don’t take the kids to the screenings). Of the 11 films, we recommend Berni’s Doll, a darkly satirical take on mail-order brides; Workin’progress, a jaunty musical about a construction worker who multiplies himself to get the job done; El Desafio a la Muerte, about a fakir who puts himself in a blender, presumably to test the limits of his body; and Tong, one of the few shorts with dialogue where hapless Chinese scientist Tong is called upon to save our earth. Each film runs for only about a few minutes, with the total viewing time clocking in at little over an hour. The other films include Bob; The Process; Daily Schedule; Out of Order; Dynamo; The Crease; and Le Moulin. Seating is limited to only about 20 people, so we suggest getting to Sakshi a little ahead of time.
