Pinkberry To Open In Mumbai This Year
It’s official: Pinkberry, the wildly popular US-based purveyor of frozen yoghurt, is to open in India, and possibly in Mumbai first later this year. The brand is being brought to the country by Shiro owner JSM Corporation, which is also the franchisee of Hard Rock Cafe and California Pizza Kitchen here. With Pinkberry’s entry, the city’s total fro-yo chain tally goes up to 10 by our count (the others would be Cocoberry, Yogurtbay, Fro Yo, Sugadaddy, Yogurberry, 6th Street Yogurt, Smooch, Yogurtlite, Yoforia) and that doesn’t include chains like Ice Cream Works that sell frozen yoghurt within their ice-cream stores. This, of course, raises the all too relevant question: do we really need another fro-yo joint? And will Pinkberry, which already has 175 stores in 17 countries, wipe out at least part of the competition?
