India Suffering. According to a survey conducted by US polling agency Gallup where Indians were asked to rank the quality of their lives as “thriving”, “struggling” or “suffering”, 31 per cent of the respondents chose the last option. The research revealed that having a “good job” or full-time employment, and the prevalence of government corruption were among the factors most Indians consider when perceiving the quality of their present and future lives. The India figure was substantially higher than the global rate of “suffering” of 13 per cent. [BBC]

Waste Management. The e-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011, which finally came into effect on Tuesday, make it mandatory for consumers to send their e-waste such as old mobile phones and computers, to recycling units for dismantling and recycling instead of throwing them in the garbage. The rules place most of the onus of handling and recycling e-waste on product manufacturers, who have to set up collection points at which customers can deposit their e-waste. [Hindustan Times]

No Show. No Indian restaurants made it to the 2012 list of the World’s Best 50 Restaurants. New Delhi-based Bukhara is No.84 in the rankings, published by British magazine Restaurant based on the votes of 800 industry experts from around the globe including food critics, chefs and restaurateurs. Rene Redzepi’s Nordic cuisine Copenhagen restaurant Noma has retained its position as the best restaurant in the world. [Daily Mail]
