April 26, 2012 8:35 am by

It’s been nearly a week since the new auto-rickshaw fares came into effect, and over the last few days, reports of drivers using fake tariff cards and/or over-charging customers have been appearing almost daily in the newspapers. Thankfully, the Regional Transport Office has put the new tariff card on its website. Download it here. (Thanks to Mumbai Boss reader Sharvari for pointing us to their post.)

It is easy to calculate Auto Rikshaw Fare ,from Mechanical Meters There is table ( Though Fare is increased about 70%)

There are 2 types of Electronic meters, one Starts at Rs. 12,Other starts at Rs. 15.
Before HIKE, From Kandivli West Rly St, to Mahavir Nagar near Panchshil bldg. Axis bank, D Mart ( about 2 Kms) we always paid about Rs. 20 , After Hike in fares, We have to pay Rs 34. Rikshawallas show tarrif Cards
What a hike? Our RTO Departments may be collecting a good Cut from Unions!!! ???

It is very difficult to get a rikshaw in the morning hours for short distance rikshwala refuse to come and also most of the rikshaw meter are faulty or tempered. There is no checking from RTO and people are get cheated and very rude particularly with ladies.

There should be surprise check from RTO in such cases

we cant say anything about auto drivers regarding meter temper and price hike because traffic police also knw abt meter tempering…which i had saw at dahisar check naka..i got photo of traffic police and auto driver, who is paying him some money to park his auto at other side of check naka which area belong to meera – bynder. that all auto are got of meter wheel of 45 that means 40 paise past per point. as per RTO PASSING OF METER wheel should of 67. that difference comes if you have pay rs.138.00 that time you have to pay more then rs.210.00 . can police stop all this. they cant..because they are also involved with this….may b R. R. PATIL also (i dont think so…he is genuine in his duty)

rickshaws are the sickest things i have seen on the road, they are driven by the most uneducated lots who have no discipline 0n road, think that they rule the road and want to fight for the most silly reason. and when you really require a rick in the most emergency scenario they are never available or dont want to ply there, so whats the use of this shit on the road. mumbai rto please… if you really want to see traffic eased in mumbai do some thing about the rickshaws!! they are just a mennace in all angles!!

    riksha mitar card

  23. Heli |

Right! Only 1 rup. difference. If it helps, u can download the software m-indicator where you have bus and train schedules and taxi and auto rickshaw’s fares. You can directly view the meter and the corresponding rate on your phone and you don’t even need to ask – kitna? ;)

Thank you very much for this tariff card.
On Saturday (23.6.12) I travelled from Marol Depot to Domestic Airport, the meter showed 2.10 and the auto driver took from me Rs.49. I paid the amount and got down from the auto. I realised that he had cheated me only when on my return journey by another auto the meter reading showed 2.80 and the driver charged from me Rs.37. Based on this experience, I decided to browse the internet for RTO approved rate card.
    Thanks once again.

The problem I am facing is of 0.50 paise change. Everyday I am having arguments with the ricksha wallas. They do not seem to have change of 0.50 paise. Where do we go for change. I think the RTO should do something about this. Imagine they pocket 0.50 paise from most of the passengers.

I am sick n tired of fiting with autowalas everyday. Some genuinely agree that their meters r fast, while some have the odasity of abusing me for arguing with them. To top it all, they ask me to pay the tariff from their Thane meter cards. I have started carrying a Mumbai meter card with me, but it still doesnt help. I wish Mumbai becomes a “Auto-Free” zone (no autos @ all) Sonds too much but sooner or later we will learn to survive without them just like those cities where there are no trains ! Help us God :(

  27. Shraddha Singh |

The tariff that appeared in Times of India, there was a difference of only one rupee from the previous rates.
Recently, my friends and me are having problems with many ric walas, as the tarriff card that they have is different and their fares are much higher.
There is major confusion regarding this.
Nex time, I’m just gonna note down the ric number and register a complaint at the RTO.

  28. Darshan |

This is indeed correct….see the atricle in the Hindustan times on 30.04.2012…there are bogus and incorrect auto tarrif cards used by some auto walas….the difference between old and new is only one rupee………Be alert of the fake cards….

  29. Hi all,

I’ve designed a mobile-friendly version of the tariff card, which you can download from here:

    http://thenewvitruvianman.com/design/mumbai-auto-rickshaw-fare-card-2012

I’ve already seen well over 200 downloads since I released it last Friday; feedback/comments would be well appreciated.

  30. @R @Karishma This is the auto-rickshaw tariff card, which came into effect from Friday, April 20, 2012. It is the official one issued by the RTO.

  31. Karishma C |

Is there no one who has the corrected new tariff?
Or if this is the right one, then can someone confirm it please.

  32. R |

The chart is wrong. It shows only a 1 rupee difference between the old rate and the new rate

  33. KulwantSingh |

It’s on the high side. Autos will loose business
