Bespoke Suits For Men Made By A Woman

April 5, 2012 8:26 am by

Where do you go when you need a (relatively) affordable albeit stylish custom-made suit? For most men, the answer lies with their neighbourhood darjee or tailor, who often relies on outdated catalogues of foreign brands for style tips. Enter into this spartan landscape, Sarah Sheikh, a London College of Fashion graduate, who started by making menswear for her friends and family before eventually launching her bespoke label SS Homme in 2010. The 23-year-old, who has interned at GQ magazine, distinguishes her offerings by the aesthetic they don’t ascribe to, namely “no bling”. As a result, her spiffy range of coloured blazers, fitted shirts (that’s her marketing manager and boyfriend Sandeep Gonsalves, who also doubles up as her model, in the photo) and tuxedo jackets have already found many fans, who custom order everything to their specifications. Sheikh, who prefers classic styles (her dapper double-breasted suit appears surprisingly contemporary), also makes bow ties and skinny knit ties.

To make an appointment, contact Sarah Sheikh by emailing info@sshomme.in or call her on 99305 84392. Suit prices average around Rs25,000; those of shirts at Rs3,500.

There are some rumours that men would be more willing to spend at this store considering a girl has started it and consults with them and “Measures” them. Is it true? How do women feel about their guy being Persued by Sarah, to purchase?

I ordered a suit for my boyfriend as a surprise and the fit was absolutely perfect fit considering that she did not even take his measurements personally amazing stuff!
Good luck with your brand !!

25k for just tailoring the suite is not consider cheap. Unless of course, it includes the cloth too. Otherwise, one can get a bespoke suite at famed institutions like Raymond and R&T at around 14 – 16K (on the higher side – tailoring only).

Even so, one must appreciate the young Sarah’s entrepreneurship. I’m sure, that in today’s market, she’ll find many a takers for her offerings. Best of luck to her!
