Watch Katy Perry Perform at the IPL Opening Ceremony
American pop star Katy Perry’s much-hyped performance at the 2012 IPL opening ceremony was restricted to just one song, the chart-topping title track of her album Teenage Dream. Wisely, Perry decided to leave the whipped cream-shooting bras at home, and opted for a relatively more demure Arabian Nights princess look instead. Unfortunately for Perry, this meant that her outfit did not draw attention away from her less-than-impressive live singing skills. But maybe we should give her props for not lip syncing, even if her interactions with the audience were limited to tentative shout-outs to “Shennai!” Perry’s performance culminated what was widely declared an underwhelming opening ceremony, which was more Bollywood awards show than sporting-related event (Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan danced to their recent hits). Former IPL head honcho Lalit Modi couldn’t resist sharing what he felt about the proceedings on his Twitter page where he said, “Can’t bear to watch it anymore – as on Tv it looks appalling. Hope in Stadium its better. But bright side the Games begin Tomorrow.”
