The Good Buy: Yellow Buffalo Stationery

After seven years of compulsive doodling through college, Avantika Aggarwal decided to monetise the habit in 2011. That’s when she turned her doodles into art work for notebooks and gift wrapping paper, and started selling them under the label, Yellow Buffalo. A limited collection of ruled hard-cover and soft-cover wire-bound notebooks that feature her quirky drawings are currently on sale at stores in the city (prices start at Rs50; see below for addresses). Aggarwal’s drawings are inspired by, among other things, TV shows, and faces of Mumbaikars she observes while travelling. Her busy black and white drawings are sprinkled with text, which includes names of Mumbai restaurants, popular phrases from Hindi films (“Calendar, khana do”, “Mard ban”), and random words and statements that grab her fancy. Rs40 for a sheet of gift wrapping paper.
