Uddhav Thackeray Has The Final Word on Katherine Boo

That's us, "Healthy, wealthy and green".

Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray was nice enough to do an email interview with the folks at The New York Times. Scattered among musings on the city’s general state of affairs (“we claim credit for keeping our city healthy, wealthy and green”), are some bon mots that we’ll leave you to judge how best to interpret them:

ON THE SHIV SENA’S SIGNATURE ACHIEVEMENT

“First and foremost, a noncorrupt government.”

ON FUTURE PRIORITIES
“A world-class zoo and an aquarium will be in the making soon.”

ON THEIR RIVALS, THE CONGRESS AND THE MNS
“The most corrupt ministers serve in their government and they have taken the state to a rank that is deplorable.”
“I don’t give much importance to M.N.S.”

ON MUMBAI BEING LIKE NEW YORK
“About public transportation, Mumbai is one of the best cities for it, wherein you would get transportation at any given time in the day or night. Somewhat like New York.”

ON KATHERINE BOO WRITING THAT BOOK ABOUT MUMBAI SLUMS
“Haven’t heard of this book…there are better books that paint a little more reality than such books…Governments don’t go by such irrelevant books, they go by hard work and service.”

Clearly, we have nothing to worry about.
