Is Mumbai Big Enough For Seven Frozen Yogurt Chains?

We’re all for over-saturation of a market, especially if it means keeping the competition on their toes. But is this city big enough for seven frozen yogurt chains? On the heels of Cocoberry, Yogurtbay and Fro Yo will soon come Sugadaddy, 6th Street Yogurt, Smooch, and possibly from what we hear frozen yogurt godfather, Pinkberry. In preparation for a yogurt crawl, here’s what we can tell you: 6th Street Yogurt (read our review here), named after a street in Austin, Texas, will open this Friday in Breach Candy where they will serve waffles, smoothies and parfaits in addition to frozen yogurt (flavours include pomegranate and basil, and cranberry juice and rosemary). Prices start at Rs50 for a small cup. Sugadaddy will open near Kobe Sizzlers in Opera House in March, and will serve frozen yogurt, milkshakes, softie swirls and smoothies, with prices starting at Rs30 for a small cup (flavours include coconut and biscotti). Smooch, on Juhu Tara Road, will also open in March, and will be a sit-in place that will offer Italian frozen yogurt and smoothies in flavours like ginger mango, strawberry cheesecake and kiwi delight (pricing, which is yet to be finalised, will be by weight). As for Pinkberry, we hear the US chain is in talks to enter the Indian market possibly this year or early next. Stay tuned for more.

There’s another one that has launched recently in the Carter Road area called Yoforia (http://yoforia.in), a franchise of Yoforia USA, which by the way is awesome! They are in the process of opening up more outlets I believe. Keep them coming I’d say!

I think Fro Yo has established itself as a authentic Frozen Yogurt destination in Mumbai city. I like the Fro Yo taste better than the others.

Add one more to your list, it’s Yoforia, located at Carter Road, Bandra. You get to use the frozen yogurt machines and you pay by weight! Most of them claim to be chains but finally end up having limited presence.

I think Ruma’s favorite out of all of these new places will be Smooch. She’s going to need all that fro-yo as fuel in order to continue turning out all those witty lines over at http://www.giftyaar.com

Makes perfect sense, with out humid weather and all. I think there is place for many more!
