‘Love You To Death’ Opens Today
You can play spot the location if you go to watch Love You To Death, documentary maker Rafeeq Ellias’s debut feature film, which releases in cinemas today, Friday, February 3. Love You To Death, is a largely English, part-Hindi dark comedy in the vein of Delhi Belly, except it’s been made with half the budget—as the trailer points out, it has no Khans, Kapoors or Rahman—but sadly, also contains half the laughs. The plot centres around Sonia (Yuki Elias), an orphaned heiress who is seemingly too obsessed with her dog’s insomnia to realise that her husband Atul (Chandan Roy Sanyal) only married her for her millions. When she finally wisens up, his mother and he scheme to kill her off with the help of a theatre director (Chetan Shashital) who is also a hitman on the side. The film pokes gentle fun at the likes of tarot card readers and art critics but for us the best part of the movie was identifying the many Mumbai landmarks at which it was filmed, from Michael Pinto’s coffin shop to Gallery BMB. (Look out for gallery owner and artist Bose Krishnamachari’s brief cameo.)
