Mumbai Kids Most Stressed During Exam Time
• Civic Issues. According to a study conducted by the NGO Praja Foundation, based on figures obtained through a Right To Information query about complaints lodged with civic wards across the city between April 2008 and March 2011, the lack or absence of adequate drainage and inadequate water supply were citizen’s two most common problems. The study, which was carried out with a sample of over 28,000 people, found that waterlogging, pollution and corruption were among the issues most important to Mumbai residents. [DNA]
• Exam Stress. A survey of 625 students conducted by the Indian Medical Academy in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai has found that schoolchildren in Mumbai experience the highest amount of stress ahead of their examinations. Around 78 per cent of the students surveyed said that they get “very tense” during exams while 75 per cent said that they feel physically ill before the day of the test. [The Times of India]
• Conflict Zone. The US director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said that India may be preparing for a “limited conflict” with China. “Despite public statements intended to downplay tensions between India and China, we judge that India is increasingly concerned about China’s posture along their disputed border and Beijing’s perceived aggressive posture in the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific region,” said Clapper in a testimony to the US senate.
