Red Light Replacement LIV To Open Next Friday
On Friday, January 20, new nightclub LIV will open in place of erstwhile teenager haunt Red Light in Kala Ghoda. Among the big changes are that you need to be at least 25 to enter, and that entry will be via a guest list. In other words, you need to know one of the four people who run LIV, Aneesha Bahl, Shashi Thadani, Sunny Sara and Ritik Bhasin, to get in.
The foursome decided to completely revamp Red Light’s décor, menu, and target demographic with the hopes of launching LIV as a “boutique nightclub” that caters to “an elite crowd”. In fact LIV will also implement a strict door policy: no slippers or caps allowed. The dramatic décor features black metalla (a type of marble) walls, crystal-resembling resin tiles and a custom-made “floating chandelier” that criss-crosses the entire ceiling (see image).
The owners have done away with Red Light’s VIP backroom but they will reserve some sections of LIV for private parties. Food will be served in the form of small plates; dishes include mini lamb burgers with caramelised onions; prawn cocktails; pesto marinated chicken roulade; and a cheese platter. Dessert options include red velvet and chocolate cupcakes.
The cocktails and shots menu includes drinks named after each of the owners. For instance, the Aneeni, named after Bahl, is a concoction of Jacob’s Creek pinot noir with strawberry, watermelon, orange and lime while the Crackling Shash, by Thadani, is a martini made with Grey Goose vodka, Alize liqueur and caramel. The club also plans to hold a Grey Goose martini night every Wednesday.
LIV will be open to the public from Wednesday to Saturday, and will host private events from Sunday through Tuesday. There will be no entrance fee.
