How many stand-up comedians does it take to change a light bulb? Screw it, we’re not telling you.

You will most definitely hear better jokes at the Naked Comedy Festival, which is being organised this Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 at the St. Andrew’s Auditorium by Bonobo Productions, an event company started by the folks who run popular Bandra bar and restaurant Bonobo. The line-up features both established—Papa CJ, Sorabh Pant—and fast-rising stand-up talent but more significantly, a mix of comedians from Mumbai and New Delhi. The funny men and women from the capital who will be performing at the event include Abish Mathew, Neville Shah and Neeti Palta. Shaun Williams’s Mumbai-based sketch comedy troupe The Cellar Door is also part of the line-up, which is completed by Aditi Mittal, Varun Grover and Kunal Rao, all three of whom got their start performing with Vir Das.

“The idea was to bring together stand-up comedians who have different styles and talk about different topics,” says Nevil Timbadia, one of the partners of Bonobo. “[For instance] Varun [Grover] has a deadpan style of humour and talks mostly about politics. Abish [Mathew] sings and plays guitar and performs ‘musical comedy’. [Sorabh] Pant has different characters like Panjot Singh Sidhu [a spoof of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu].” Popular theatre, advertisement and film actor Ashwin Mushran will host both the shows, which will feature seven comedians who will stage routines that will last between ten and 25 minutes. Clowns and stilt walkers (who will help guide people to empty parking spots) will entertain the crowd before the gates open, and will thus provide the audience with an incentive for making it to the venue ahead of show time.

Five Mumbai Boss readers can win couple passes to the Naked Comedy Fesitval on Saturday, October 8.
