Kochi Tuskers Axed From IPL
• Flash Strike. Auto-rickshaw drivers in parts of the eastern and western suburbs went on a flash strike on Monday morning to protest against the crackdown on tampered meters by the Andheri Regional Transport Office this past Friday and Saturday. Passengers in Andheri, Kurla, Kandivali, Borivali, Bandra and Khar were affected by the strike, which the city’s auto-rickshaw unions said was illegal. [Hindustan Times]
• Training Classes. Authorities from the Railway Protection Force have begun visiting schools and colleges in Mumbai to talk to students about the dangers of performing stunts on local trains. RPF officials, who have been to 20 educational institutions in Thane, Kalwa, Dombivali and Ambernath on the main line, and Wadala, Chembur and Mankhurd on the harbour line, so far, said that they found that most students performed the stunts in the afternoon when the compartments are relatively empty. • IPL Axe. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India terminated its contract with the Kochi Tuskers on the grounds that the owners of the Indian Premier League franchise had committed an “irremediable breach”. The BCCI reportedly made the decision after the team’s owners defaulted on the payment of their annual franchise fee of Rs156 crore. However, the owners of the franchise are considering moving court for the wrongful termination of their contract. [Mint]
