Dunkin’ Donuts To Open in 2012
• By early 2012, American breakfast chain Dunkin’ Donuts will launch its first outpost in India. The company has partnered with fast-food operator Jubilant Foodworks Ltd., which runs the Domino’s Pizza chain in the country, to open 80 to 100 outlets in India over the next five years. Dunkin’ Donuts, known for its selection of donuts and coffee, plans to offer an all-day dining experience in India. [Reuters]
• City restaurants operated by Ahar, the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association, have increased the price of breakfast items by 20 to 25 per cent, following the rise in the prices of bread, eggs and milk. Tea, which earlier cost between Rs7 and Rs10, is now priced between Rs12 to Rs15. A cup of coffee, earlier priced at Rs12, now starts at Rs15. Prices of plates of idlis and bread and butter have gone up by Rs5 to Rs8. [The Times of India]
• Food and Consumer Affairs Minister KV Thomas said that food wastage at weddings and social gatherings was “criminal” and announced that the government was contemplating brining in a law to curb this. Although the government does not have figures for the exact amount of wastage, judging by various newspaper reports, it could be up to 15-20 per cent per function. Thomas said that the government is looking to exercise the Guest Control Order, a legislation which limits the number of guests at marriages and other events. [Oneindia.in]
• After the launch of iPad menus at restaurants like Royal China and Koh by Ian Kittichai at InterContinental Marine Drive, city restaurants and lounges including Valhalla at Churchgate and Escobar in Bandra have now created Blackberry Messenger groups for their regular patrons to allow them to make reservations and keep them informed about new offers, how crowded a place is and whether they’ll be allowed to enter.
