View Slideshow While only time will testify to the iPhone’s legitimacy as a painting implement, it has already proved to be an amusing tool for amateur artists and techie-minded draughtsman (earlier this month Apple got its biggest artistic endorsement when a David Hockney still life done on his iPad made it to the cover of the New Yorker). Closer to home, it proved to be a nifty tool for photographer Kainaz Amaria, a Fulbright scholar who moved to Mumbai from San Francisco in 2009. Overwhelmed by the general chaos of Mumbai, Amaria began taking pictures on her iPhone, which she filtered through an app that increased the contrast, and sized them into squares. “It’s very liberating using an iPhone after working for a daily paper,” Amaria says. The phone she adds, helped her be inconspicuous and capture personal moments without being intrusive. “And if I failed and made a bad picture, it didn’t really matter”. While a few of Amaria’s iPhone pictures can be seen at Kala Ghoda Cafe, we asked her to share some of her latest shots from the series she calls “Dream Mumbai”. Click on the slideshow, above, to view images. Framed photos (10 x 10 inches) are available for Rs3,000 each. Email kainazamaria@gmail.com for more details.
