Art of the Day: Parsi Weightlifters
View Slideshow Bodybuilding can be a peculiar business especially when you consider the end result. A body of impressive muscle to fat ratio, maintained by a near thankless regime of healthy living for, at best, a few moments of glory. And yet people all over the world pursue it because to be the owner of such a body is a feat that few accomplish. It’s this feeling of pride that’s evident in Aparna Jayakumar’s series of photos from the 2010 Annual Zoroastrian Power-Lifting and Bodybuilding Championship, a much-anticipated event held in Mumbai by and for the Parsi community. Though titled “Flex, Feroze!”, there is no indication of who or even if there is a Feroze in the pictures (given the popularity of the name in the Parsi community, there probably is). But finding Feroze is beside the point. Somewhere between the flexed muscles and greased bodies (waxed to a darker colour to better show off muscle tone) are the sweaty benefits of competition and of course, the glory of winning.
