Mocha Mojo To Host ‘Fantasy Cricket’ Tournament

Cricket fans often feel they can do a better job than selectors, team owners and pretty much anyone in charge of making the big decisions related to the game. Latitude 18’55 Commerce House, which previously held a cricket tournament for underprivileged kids, is now organising a “fantasy cricket” competition that kicks off today at Mocha Mojo with an “auction”. Cricket enthusiasts won’t have to use their wallets but their wits and their knowledge of the sport to bid for players that will make up their “fantasy teams” for the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 tournament, which will be held from September 10-26 in South Africa. Contestants earn points for their teams on the basis of how their players are performing in the actual tournament. At the end of the Champions League, the contestants with the highest points will win prizes, including Protos cricket bats and meal vouchers from the Impresario group of restaurants (which runs Mocha Mojo). Although fantasy cricket tournaments are hosted by numerous websites, Latitude 18’55 claims their version is different in two ways. “On websites, multiple contestants can have the same player on their team,” said Saif Hussain, one of the company’s founders. “Here, only one person gets to have Sachin Tendulkar on their team, making it tougher than online fantasy cricket.”  Latitude 18’55 says the tournament will also bring cricket-crazy fans who interact on the Internet face-to-face. “This is real ‘social networking’,” said Hussain.
