Shelf-Life at Gallery Maskara
Prashant Pandey’s first solo show is aptly called “Shelf-Life” because nothing is likely to last even the duration of the show (especially a work made of chocolate that was so done as to last only through opening night). In the exhibition, it’s the perishable nature of, well… life that comes under the microscope. Using cobwebs and expired chocolate on the tamer side, and blood and urine on the other, Pandey wields an icky array of material, weaving them into delicate form. There’s a floral-like tapestry of used cigarette butts, a glass-encased froth of cobwebs, and a sculpture of a lizard’s tail made from shredded bank notes. Even with no tangible lasting value, the works speak somewhat fittingly to the fleeting impermanence of life itself.
When: Until Sunday, September 26. Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm; Monday closed.
Where: Gallery Maskara at Warehouse on Third Pasta, 6/7, Third Pasta Lane, Colaba. Tel: 2202 3056.

Kundalika River
The monsoons are the busiest time of year for the otherwise quiet hamlet of Kolad on the Mumbai-Goa highway. For four months every year, when the Kundalika river swells, Kolad becomes an adventure hotspot. White-water rafting is the most popular activity on the Kundalika, but Breakfree Journeys, a year-old adventure group started by Rushikesh Kulkarni, has introduced kayaking on a placid stretch of the river, away from the rush of the rapids. This Saturday, Breakfree Journeys is organising a kayaking day-trip to Kolad, where if you fancy more of a challenge, you can put down your oars and try crossing the river on a tightrope. And if not, just soak in the view of the lush surroundings from the base of a serene waterfall. Take a spare change of clothes and wear floaters or flip-flops.
When: Saturday, September 4, 5.30am to 7.30pm.
Where: Kolad. Breakfree Journeys will arrange pick-ups from Borivali up to Vashi and also from Andheri, Bandra, Sion and Chembur. To register, call Rushikesh Kulkarni on 98200 23362 or mail breakfreejourneys@gmail.com. The registration fee is Rs1,250 and includes a buffet lunch.
