Kittichai’s KOH Opening at InterContinental

Ian Kittichai.
Stop the presses. Earlier this year, we told you that New York sushi restaurant Megu is slated to open at the Leela sometime in 2011. And that Belgian bakery chain Le Pain Quotidien will open later this year somewhere in Colaba. We can now also confirm that Kittichai, the chic Thai restaurant from New York run by world-acclaimed chef Ian Chalermkittichai aka Ian Kittichai will open at the InterContinental Hotel on Marine Drive on July 20. The hotel confirms that the restaurant will be called KOH by Ian Kittichai, and will be located somewhere in the lobby. From chef Kittichai’s Facebook page, we know he’s currently in the city setting things up. His eponymous restaurant in New York has been praised for its modern take on Thai food and Kittichai is generally considered one of the best Asian chefs working today. Kittichai’s personal website also has a snippet on his upcoming Mumbai project, but no word yet on the style or kind of Thai food. Judging by his previous ventures in New York, Bangkok and Barcelona, we can expect seriously inventive, Thai-influenced dishes spanning the gamut of meat and fish.

There is hope for South Bombay yet…
only if you have a bucket of cash. no modern city can survive without nice, cheap, interesting eats (and drinks).
where are the kamlings of tomorrow?
I have eaten at Kittichai in NYC at the Thomson Hotel, overpriced , mediocre food.. our bill was $800.. but Mumbai’s wannabes will lap it up with their oodles of cash.. if you want good thai.. try Koh Thai in HK.. not a part of the chain but good food and reasonable too.
Variety is always welcome in Mumbai ,which still has not hit the diversity in cuisine that NY offers. So, Mumbaikars who go there might just be those dying for a change.
Oh, and a plane ticket to HK for a nice Thai meal, Anjeeta? Very impractical suggestion.
Le Pain is apparently going to open where the ol Henry Tham was i think… dont quote me on it.
GUYS FOOD IS FOOD NO DISSCUSSION PLEASE
