Mumbai’s 21 Best Sandwiches
View Slideshow What’s to a sandwich but two slices of bread and a choice of filling? That simple but genius combination has spurned a 1,000 variations, some indigenous to Mumbai’s very own streets (vada pav, anyone?). In our quest to whittle down the best sandwiches in the city, we had to limit ourselves to what we considered a sandwich—essentially anything held between bread, usually two slices or more, and excepting vada pav and burgers, which though popular variations, are entitled to separate lists. From the humble roadside toastie to the more artisinal creations of five-star restaurants, we bring you the fruits of our very extensive labour. The sandwiches are ranked in no particular order. Love one? Hate others? Have your own suggestions? Please post all thoughts in the comments sections.

Does any1 take such listings seriously? I mean, really? I’m surprised you haven’t taken into account Jai Sandwich outside National College, Bandra. Personally, my favourite sandwiches are the ones that several enterprising mum’s make from meal leftovers. From simple yellow aloo sabji toasted to a prawns filling sandwich, my mum sure made the simple sandwich quite exciting. And I’m sure most other mums do. And I agree with kaalibaan on your No 1 pick. Highly overrated to say the least.
You should probably take this banker to court for blatant plagiarism:

The cheese potato sandwich outside Famous Studio, Mahalakshmi is simple yet ‘to be had’…other combos like capsicum cheese, tomato cheese are all served with crunchy sev on top and hot chutney to taste…..very ‘Bambaiya’!!
It’s downright unfair that you left out good old Babloo who makes a mean Kurkure Cheese sandwich. Double decker sandwich combining the goodness of cheese and, if you please, brown bread, with the diet-sin of Kurkure. Babloo Sandwichwallah has a stall opposite Air India building, Nariman Point.
You forgot “Grub Corner”, opposit Amrapali, Fort. ITs got the best Ham & Cheese and Salami & Cheese sandwitches in all of Mumbai. Check the place out to see for your self.
The article just proves how bad the general quality of sandwiches is in Bombay. Take your number 1 pick. The Philly Cheese Steak fails to take into account the basic mechanics of sandwich eating. The bread’s a crusty baguette which is toasted to make it even harder. What happens when you put lots of liquidy filling in hard bread? All the filling falls out when you take a bite. Plus the caramelized onions and barbecue sauce make it too sweet, and the cheddar barely registers its presence.
salt water cafe also makes great sandwiches. i’m surprised it’s not on the list.
The list of veg options is your usual basic stuff like grill, cheese and chutney sandwiches. Please include some exotic options as well like incase of the non-veg options.
Yellow Tree Cafe has a nice goat cheese and caramelized onion sandwich.
Ramnath Damodar sandwich stall opposite Peninsula corporate park in Lower parel(9892843303/6425798) makes amazing baked beans cheese grill sandwich and samosa cheese toast sandwich. For the health conscious they also make it in brown bread for a Rs.3 surcharge
I think Hornby’s Pavilion at ITC Grand Central do a fabulous job with sandwiches ! Must try their innovative ice cream sandwiches! Rocky beach is my personal fav!
