Heavy metal bands may have the most loyal fans of all genres, but the music doesn’t get enough love from the suits. Music venues, almost all of which are also restaurants, are hesitant to host heavy metal bands for fear of a mosh pit interrupting someone’s dinner. So it came as a surprise that Rolling Stone India managed to gather up enough sponsors to hold the country’s first-ever Metal Awards. Along with a main sponsor, sneaker brand Converse, the folks at the music mag have managed to tie-up with numerous “partners” to stage the ceremony. Among the associates taking care of the venue (Blue Frog), gear (Furtado’s Music), prizes (Kramer Guitar), and media (Radio One), there was one particular partner that caught our eye. That would be “sensual fragrance partner” Black XS by Paco Rabanne. Both bands and fans are known to get a bit sweaty after a good headbang, so we get the “fragrance” bit, we’re just not sure about the “sensual” part.

As for the ceremony, it will be hosted by Rohit “P-Man” Pereira of Pin Drop Violence, Khiladi, and The P-Man Show fame, and will feature performances by Mumbai bands Scribe and Demonic Resurrection and Delhi’s Undying Inc. Both Scribe and Demonic Resurrection are likely to make multiple appearances on stage, given that they’re both nominated in almost each of the seven categories. They’ll have to compete with Bhayanak Maut, which earned six nods, and also won Best Album at the Rolling Stone Rock Awards held in February.
